Former England cricketer calls for dropping Alastair Cook from the last Test

Lloyd feels Cook should be dropped from the last Test against India

England opener Alastair Cook who has recently announced his retirement and he will be hanging his boots after the fifth and final Test match at the Oval.

The 33-year old has had an illustrious career of more than 12 years but his form has been waning this summer. Reflecting on Cook’s form, former England cricketer David Lloyd has opined that the batsman should be dropped for the next game to make way for budding talents.

He said that he doesn’t see any reason why ’empty tank’ Alastair Cook should play the fifth Test against India. Alastair Cook had scored 294 runs in one innings against 2011 but he has struggled with his bat this season and has just scored 109 runs with the highest score of 29 in Nottingham at an average of 15.57.

Lloyd played for England in the 1970s and the early 1980s took to Twitter to attack the current form of Alastair Cook and wrote, “A Cook has been a wonderful player for England .. a rock .. he says, “ the tank is empty” Can’t personally see why he plays at the Oval .. get the new chap in immediately“.

He hailed Alastair Cook as a phenomenal player for England, but he asserted that since the player felt that he had nothing more to give to the game, he should now step back and let new some new players replace him.

Lloyd’s opinion sparked off a debate on social media where Twitterati asked Lloyd why he didn’t want to give Cook a farewell.

To this, he slammed the fans for acting so emotional about it and said that Cook wasn’t dead. He also added that if the fans want him to give Cook a farewell, he could parade around the ground at Lunchtime.

England have tried 12 openers with Cook since Strauss retired. Now you think theres 2 out there when we cant find one?! Cook had earnt the chance to be given time to try and turn things around. He deserves an amazing send off.
