Hope Mithali stops blackmailing coaches: Ramesh Powar

  • The controversy circling Mithali Raj continues to get muddier as now coach of Indian women’s team Ramesh Powar has made shocking allegations on Mithali in his report submitted to the BCCI.


    Mithali threatened to retire if not allowed to open: Powar 

    In his report, Powar explained that before Pakistan match, video analyst Pushkar Sawant came to his room and said that fielding coach Biju George has conveyed to him that Mithali is upset with batting order and packed her bags with announcement of retirement in the morning.

    Powar reveals that he was saddened by her attitude and it gave him an impression that Mithali Raj comes first and then India. He noted that she threw a lot of tantrums and created a lot of chaos.


    Mithali failed to understand her role: Powar 

    Powar stated that Mithali couldn’t understand her role and adapt to the team plan and played for her personal milestones.

    The former India off-spinner explained that Mithali’s irresponsible behaviour took his time away as he was supposed to speak with few players regarding preparations of all important semifinal match, which could not happen.

    According to Powar it is not always about individual milestones, it’s always about team strategies and executions.

    The coach of India’s women team noted that after Pakistan match, Mithali asked for a meeting with him through team manager Trupti Bhattacharya, which he obliged.

    In the meeting, she conveyed that she is not a very good player for this format compared to one day format where Powar convinced her that she is the most experienced player in the team and can adapt easily as she had scored a good hundred vs. Sri Lanka, batting in the middle order in ODI series.

    Powar recalled that in that game, Mithali did not take the field for first 11 overs due to fatigue after batting and India lost the match as all bowling plans were known to her which she did not share with vice-captain Harmanpreet due to her sour relationship.

    Powar summarized the letter by stating that he hopes Mithali stops blackmailing, pressurising coaches and putting her interest first than the team.
