It has been more than one and a half-year that Mahendra Singh Dhoni has stepped down as captain of team India and Virat Kohli being appointed as the new captain, but it seems like BCCI is reluctant to admit the fact.

According to BCCI’s official site, Dhoni’s profile still described him as the Captain of Indian cricket team.

Former India skipper has recently drawn criticism and ire of Indian fans due to his sub-standard performances in the recently completed One-Day International series where England beat India by 2-1 to seal the ODI series.

Bur with the site still showing Dhoni as skipper of the Indian team, the matter didn’t escape the notice of the people as it went viral across social media platforms.

MS Dhoni was handed over the captaincy of team India ahead of the inaugural T20 World Cup in September 2007. He was handed over the ODI responsibility in the same month. The wicketkeeper-batsman was later named the Test captain in 2008.

Despite him quitting the post long time back, BCCI failed to update his profile on their official site and this goof-up by the Board for Control of Cricket became the butt of many jokes. See how Twitter couldn’t keep calm following the incident:

BCCI later rectified the error and gave Kohli the captain tag on the site.

Earlier, Dhoni’s action of taking the ball from the umpire had drawn a lot of speculation about Dhoni’s retirment.

BCCI’s goof-up has come into the fore just a few days after Indian fans booed Dhoni at the Lords for his slow knock in the second ODI against England.

Dhoni announced his retirement from Test cricket in December 2014 during the tour of Australia.

In January 2017, he announced that he would step down from captaincy but continue playing under Kohli in ODIs and T20Is.
