ICC Men’s Player of the Month: Complete List of Nominees

The International Cricket Council has been honoring cricketers with the ‘Player of the Year’ awards for the last few years. And now the apex cricket body has announced a new of awards, wherein the best performers during a month will be honored. From 2021, ICC will give the ‘ICC Player of the Month’ awards and for the month of January, ICC has announced the list of nominees. In the men’s category, Indian wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant is nominated along with England skipper Joe Root and Ireland batsman Paul Sterling.

Three nominations for Men’s Player of the Month award

ICC has nominated three cricketers for the Player of the Month award for the month of January. Rishabh Pant played two important innings during India’s historic Test series win against Australia. In the 3rd Test, Pant’s knock of 97 runs on the final day helped India to earn to draw and then his sensational innings of 89 not out at Brisbane allowed India to win a Test at Gabba and also seal the series 2-0.

Joe Root was simply unstoppable in the 2-match Test series against Sri Lanka. The England skipper made 228 runs in the first innings of the first Test and then scored 186 runs in the second Test to help England win the Test series 2-0.

Paul Sterling played exceptionally well in the white-ball format and scored 2 hundreds in the month of January.

Diana Baig, Shabnim Ismail, and Marizanne Kapp nominated in women’s category

In the women’s category, ICC has nominated Pakistan player Diana Baig and South African cricketers M Kapp and S Ismail. Baig was the highest wicket-taker in the 3-match ODI series between South Africa and Pakistan and claimed 9 wickets.

M Kapp was chief architect of South Africa’s series win against Pakistan. She made 115 runs and chipped in with 3 wickets. Ismail on the other hand, ended the series with 7 wickets.
