There have been some significant changes in the ICC rankings over the past two days. The latest player updates released by the International Cricket Council (ICC) highlight legendary Australian paceman Mitchell Starc reclaiming the numero uno spot in the ICC Test bowlers’ rankings. Meanwhile, the Indian T20I skipper Shreyas Iyer has made notable gains in the T20I batting charts following the five-match T20I series against New Zealand.
Australian legendary left-arm pacer Mitchell Starc has reclaimed the pole position in the ICC Test bowlers’ rankings after a comprehensive show in the recently concluded Australia tour of South Africa, where the left-armer finished as the highest wicket-taker for his side. Starc dethroned Proteas all-rounder Marco Jansen to claim the top spot on the points table.
At 36 years old, Mitchell Starc is breathing fire with the red ball, and his resurgence at the pinnacle of Test bowling at this phase of his career underlines his durability and match-winning potency for Australia. After overtaking Marco, the Proteas left-armer currently sits second on the Test rankings for bowlers with 875 rating points to his name.
The Test bowling leaderboard also saw notable movements for South Africa’s off-spinner Simon Harmer, who climbed into the top ten following a magnificent 6-wicket haul in the second innings of the final Test against Australia at Cape Town. India’s fast-bowling spearhead Jasprit Bumrah remains comfortably positioned inside the top five Test bowlers globally.
In the shortest format of the game, the Indian T20I skipper Shreyas Iyer has witnessed an upward trajectory after the New Zealand series. Although he wasn’t at his best during the series, with only one fifty across five games, the Indian captain still managed to move up two places to the seventh spot in the latest ICC Men’s T20I batting rankings.
Iyer’s advancement further strengthens India’s dominance in the T20I batting rankings, with Abhishek Sharma already placed at the pole position with 889 rating points, whereas Ishan Kishan holds the third spot with 862 rating points. Iyer is the third Indian batter in the top 10, whereas Tilak Varma is almost knocking on the door of the top 10, as the left-hander sits 11th on the table.
Regarding the latest shifts across individual rankings, an official release detailing player progression noted:
“Mitchell Starc has reclaimed the top position in the ICC Test bowling rankings, while India’s Shreyas Iyer climbed two spots overall in the T20I batters rankings following his side’s recent white-ball fixtures.”
Beyond Starc and Iyer, the weekly ranking refresh saw movement across all three formats:
