The initial phase of ICC T20 World Cup 2026 has been done and dusted. We have the eight teams who will be heading into the Super 8s of the tournament starting from 21st February. The eight teams have been divided into two groups, namely Group 1 and Group 2, comprising 4 teams each. Let’s take a look at the eight teams that are heading into the next round of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026.

These groups were finalized after the league stage, with the top two teams from each initial group advancing to the Super 8s. Each team will play three matches within their group, and the top two sides from each group will progress to the semi-finals.

Group 1 Teams

Teams- India, Zimbabwe, West Indies, South Africa

India

Team India finished Group A in pole position. They were the only undefeated team in the group, winning 4 out of 4 games. They made a mockery of their fellow Asian nation, Pakistan, by defeating them in yet another one-sided contest by 61 runs. Let’s take a look at their journey so far.

  • Defeated the United States of America by 29 runs in Mumbai.
  • Defeated Namibia by 93 runs in Delhi.
  • Defeated Pakistan by 61 runs in Colombo.
  • Defeated the Netherlands by 17 runs in Ahmedabad.

Zimbabwe

Zimbabwe stunned one and all by reaching the Super 8s stage of this World Cup. This is only the second instance when they have made it to the second round of a T20 World Cup after the 2022 edition. They finished second in Group B at the pole position without dropping a single game. In their course, they defeated the mighty Aussies along with the co-hosts Sri Lanka to make their way to the next round of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026. Let’s take a look at their journey so far.

West Indies

The two-time champions dominated Group C by winning all 4 games and finishing at the top of the group. The West Indies is unbeaten so far in the tournament and will head into the Super 8s with a lot of positivity. Let’s take a look at their journey so far.

  • Defeated England by 30 runs in Mumbai.

South Africa

The Proteas have had a terrific start to their World Cup campaign. They finished runners-up in the previous edition and have started this World Cup with 4 wins in as many games and topped Group D, which was touted as the ‘Group of Death.’ Let’s take a look at their journey.

  • Defeated Afghanistan in the 2nd Super Over in Ahmedabad.

Group 2 Teams

Teams- England, New Zealand, Pakistan, Sri Lanka

England

The English side has played some tough cricket to get to the Super 8s. They finished second in Group C, right behind the West Indies, who remained unbeaten. New Zealand

New Zealand ended as the second-best team in the ‘group of death,’ i.e., Group D. They earned 3 wins from 4 games and also succumbed to a defeat at the hands of the last edition’s finalists, South Africa. Let’s take a look at their journey.

Pakistan

Pakistan finished Group A in second spot, right behind India in Group A. They failed to defeat a test-playing nation, i.e., India, and defeated all the remaining associate teams to make their way to the Super 8s. Let’s take a look at their journey.
