Umesh Yadav IND vs AUS: The crucial news update from the India camp is that they are not playing their senior fast bowler Umesh Yadav in the opening Test match against Australia of this Border Gavaskar Trophy 2023 being hosted at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur. In the last 10 years, Team India have managed to win each of the 15 Test series played at home and suffered just two losses in the longer format at the hands of Australia and England. India are yet to guarantee themselves a place in this year’s ICC World Test Championship final and a victory in this four-match Test series against Australia will help them to qualify.

IND vs AUS: Why is Umesh Yadav is Not Playing Today’s India vs Australia 1st Test?

After having lost an important toss and being put in to bowl first, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma mentioned that they are playing as many as two pace bowlers in Mohammed Shami and Mohammed Siraj for this first Test match against Australia. This also means that Umesh Yadav will have to warm the bench despite his sensational record in home Test matches. During the previous home Test series against Australia in 2017, Umesh ended up taking as many as 17 wickets from 4 Tests at an amazing average of less than 24. In 54 Test matches so far, Umesh has picked up a total of 185 wickets at an average of 30.21, but he not been amongst the first-choice pace bowlers for the Indian Test side for a long while now.

“We would have batted too. Looks pretty dry. There will be help for spinners. We got to wait and see how much it does. Yesterday when we started training we did see some seam movement for the pacers up front. We have had a good prep for the last 5-6 days. We trained on the aspects in store. This is a big one. We know the importance of the series but we also understand it’s about winning one session at a time. It’s a long series. Three spinners, two seamers, Bharat and Suryakumar Yadav are debuting,” said India captain Rohit Sharma during the toss.
