India will be looking to secure the series win and edge closer to their third consecutive World Test Championship (WTC) final when they face Bangladesh in the second Test at Green Park Stadium, Kanpur, starting on 27 September.
After a dominant 280-run victory in the first Test at Chennai, Rohit Sharma’s men will be keen to maintain their momentum. India leads the WTC standings with a win percentage of 71.67, while Bangladesh, now sixth, will be eager to bounce back after their series opener defeat.
The Kanpur Test offers India a golden opportunity to extend their unbeaten streak against Bangladesh. India has never lost to Bangladesh in the Test format, winning 11 out of 13 encounters and drawing two. For the first time, these two sides will clash at the historic Green Park Stadium, where spin is expected to play a crucial role.
Green Park Stadium in Kanpur is known for its spin-friendly black soil surface. It is expected to be a challenging track for the batters. The wicket’s low bounce and tendency to assist spinners as the match progresses could tempt both India and Bangladesh to bolster their spin attack.
Historically, captains have opted to bat first at this venue, aiming to make the most of the easier batting conditions early on. Out of the 23 Tests hosted at Kanpur, the team batting first has won 7 times.
