The visiting England team started off their India tour with a massive 227-run victory in the first India vs England Test match in Chennai. England captain Joe Root was awarded the Man of the Match in his 100th Test match due to his sensational innings of 218 runs that helped his team post a mammoth first innings total of 578 runs after which the bowling trio of James Anderson, Jack Leach and Dominic Bess performed really well with the ball to help the visitors take a 1-0 lead in the four-match Test series. India and England will now be locking horns in the second Test match scheduled to start from February 13 in Chennai.

IND vs ENG: England announce 12-man squad for the 2nd Test

Ahead of the second Test match, the Joe Root-led England team have announced a 12-member squad with James Anderson, Jos Buttler, Dominic Bess and Jofra Archer set to miss out. The likes of wicket-keeper batsman Ben Foakes, all-rounders Moeen Ali, Chris Woakes and speedsters Stuart Broad and Olly Stone have been included in the 12-man squad. Foakes is quite certain to be part of the playing XI after Buttler has returned home while one of Woakes or Stone will lead the English pace bowling attack alongwith Stuart Broad. However, Dom Bess’ omission from the 12-man squad is surely a big surprise after the off-spinner took five wickets in the first Test including a brilliant four-wicket haul in the first innings. After recovering from COVID-19 which ruled him out of contention for the entire Sri Lanka tour, Moeen Ali will be making a comeback into the England playing XI for the second Test.
