New England Vice Captain Announced: After Jos Buttler pulled out of the fourth Test against India due to personal reasons, England have announced a new vice-captain. England’s spin bowling all-rounder Moeen Ali has been named the new vice-captain for the upcoming fourth Test against India. With the five-match series evenly poised at 1-1, the fourth Test between England and India is scheduled to start from 2 September at the Kennington Oval in London.
The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) have announced that Moeen Ali will be the new vice-captain of the Test side in the absence of Buttler. Moeen made his return to the England Test playing XI during the second Test against India and so far, he has taken 4 wickets and scored 48 runs with the bat in the series. Being appointed as the vice-captain of the national team is a big achievement for the off-spinner who has had an impressive Test career having picked up 193 wickets and notched up 2879 runs in 63 matches.
“All-rounder Moeen Ali has been named as England Test vice-captain for the fourth Test match against India at the Kia Oval starting on Thursday,” ECB said in a statement.
The Joe Root-led England team made a phenomenal comeback to level the five-match Test series with a massive innings and 76 runs victory at the Headingley against India. For the upcoming fourth Test, the hosts have added Chris Woakes, Mark Wood and Sam Billings in their 15-member squad. The duo of Chris Woakes and Ollie Pope are likely to to walk straight into the England playing 11 in place of Sam Curran and Jos Buttler.
On the other hand, India have included fast bowler Prasidh Krishna to their squad for the fourth Test against England. The visitors will surely consider including senior off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin in the playing XI at the Oval.
