Ish Sodhi: The biggest news update from the New Zealand camp is that their premier spin bowler Ish Sodhi is still not playing the India vs New Zealand 2nd ODI match scheduled to be hosted at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium in Raipur. Sodhi will not be playing in the second ODI against India today due to fitness issues. The team management has decided to give him some rest and work on his fitness before the third ODI.
This is a big blow for the New Zealand team, as Sodhi has been one of their most successful bowlers in recent times. He has been in good form and was expected to play a crucial role in the second ODI, especially on a pitch that is expected to assist the spinners. The team management has decided to go in with a new combination in the second ODI and give another opportunity to Henry Shipley. With Sodhi out of the playing XI, the onus will be on the other bowlers to step up and make up for his absence. Lockie Ferguson, Michael Bracewell, Mitchell Santner, and Blair Tickner will be the crucial wicket-taking bowlers for the team.
“We would have bowled first as well, 1st international game here, so not sure how this wicket will play. Great last game, executed well in the bat and hoping to do the same here. Looking to take back the experience, it’s important to win games, but the experience of playing in these conditions will be handy as well. Ish (Sodhi) hasn’t still pulled up well, so we’re playing the same team,” said New Zealand captain Tom Latham during the toss.
