The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) recently officially mentioned that Sanju Samson will not be available for the remainder of the India vs Sri Lanka three-match T20I series due to a knee injury. He sustained the injury while attempting to field a ball near the boundary ropes during the first T20I game against Sri Lanka. Sanju was taken for further scans in Mumbai on Wednesday afternoon after which he has been advised rest and rehabilitation. In the recently concluded opening game, Samson failed to contribute much with the bat as he was dismissed for just 5 runs.

The BCCI have named young Vidarbha wicket-keeper batsman Jitesh Sharma as the replacement in the India T20I squad for the remaining two T20I matches against the Lankan side. However, India are expected to replace Sanju Samson with Rahul Tripathi in the playing 11 on Thursday.

“Team India wicket-keeper batter Sanju Samson has been ruled out of the remainder of the 3-match T20I series against Sri Lanka. Samson hurt his left knee while attempting to field a ball near the boundary ropes during the 1st T20I at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. He was taken for scans and a specialist opinion this afternoon in Mumbai by the BCCI Medical Team and has been advised rest and rehabilitation,” said BCCI in its official press release.

“The All-India Senior Selection Committee has named Jitesh Sharma as replacement for Sanju Samson,” the release added.
