Shikhar Dhawan Dropped for IND vs SL ODI series: Team India is all set to host Sri Lanka for a three-match T20I series and 3 ODI games starting in January, 2023. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has already announced both the India ODI as well as T20I squads for the Sri Lanka home series and there are a few surprises which have raised several eyebrows. India will begin 2023 calendar year with the 1st T20I encounter against Sri Lanka on 3 January, 2023 in Mumbai while the ODI series will be starting on 10 January, 2023.
It was really a big shocker as senior opening batsman Shikhar Dhawan got dropped from the India ODI squad for the upcoming three-match IND vs SL 2023 series at home. It looks like the national selectors and the team management have decided to look ahead especially after Ishan Kishan scored an amazing double-century during the final ODI in Bangladesh. On the other hand, Dhawan managed to score just 18 runs from 3 ODIs against Bangladesh and also registered a single fifty in the New Zealand tour. Incidentally, in the absence of regular captain Rohit Sharma, it was Shikhar Dhawan who led the India ODI team during the previous few series against New Zealand, South Africa and West Indies.
For the upcoming ODI series against Sri Lanka at home, India have picked three frontline openers in Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan. After being appointed as the T20I captain, all-rounder Hardik Pandya has been named as the vice-captain of the India ODI squad.
Rohit Sharma (C), Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul (wk), Ishan Kishan (wk), Hardik Pandya (VC), Washington Sundar, Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel, Mohd. Shami, Mohd. Siraj, Umran Malik, Arshdeep Singh.
