Suryakumar Yadav India vs Sri Lanka: In an important news update, India are once again not playing their in-form middle-order batsman Suryakumar Yadav in the second ODI game against Sri Lanka taking place at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. The Men in Blue went on to win the opening ODI of 2023 calendar year against Sri Lanka by a comprehensive margin of 67 runs as Virat Kohli scored his 45th ODI hundred. After winning the T20I series, India have secured a 1-0 lead in the three-match ODI series.

During the toss, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma mentioned that they are going ahead with the same batting line-up that performed amazingly well in the first game against Sri Lanka. This also means that swashbuckling batsman Suryakumar Yadav will once again have to warm the bench and wait for his opportunity. As seen in the recent while, he has in a mind-boggling form especially after having smashed as many as 3 T20I century during the last 6 to 7 months. The 32-year-old has scored 384 runs at an average of 32 that includes two fifties from 16 ODI matches. Incidentally, both KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer failed to convert their starts in the first ODI having scored 39 and 28 respectively.

“I was in two minds. Wanted to bat first because of how we played last time, but looking at this ground, I wanted to field. Overall, improvements are as a team, nothing in particular. What we’ve done in the past is in the past, we need to look ahead and keep doing better. I love playing here, the crowd is also energetic and that motivates me always. But it is in the past, I need to start fresh. One enforced change for us, Chahal in the last game put in a dive and hasn’t recovered well today, so Kuldeep Yadav comes in,” said India captain Rohit Sharma during the toss.
