As the West Indies’ white-ball tour of India rolls on, the IND vs WI T20Is are next in the spotlight. The hosts won the ODI series 2-1 by registering wins in the first two games; now the focus shifts to the shortest format, with the 5-match series set to commence on October 6. Driven by workload management, upcoming Test commitments, and injury concerns, both teams have made a tweak in their respective squads for the upcoming series. Young all-rounder Naman Dhir will feature in the Indian setup, and wicketkeeper-batsman Amir Jangoo has been called up by the visitors.

IND vs WI T20Is: Washington Sundar Released for Ranji Trophy, Naman Dhir Drafted In

The Indian selection committee, aligned with the team management, has opted to release off-spin all-rounder Washington Sundar from the T20I squad against the West Indies. The move comes as part of a strategic plan, as the head coach, Gautam Gambhir, is eyeing a major role for his favorite all-rounder in the upcoming Test assignments in New Zealand. Gambhir wants Washington to feature for Tamil Nadu in the Ranji Trophy starting October 11 to get some game time in red-ball cricket and prepare well for the New Zealand series.

To fill the void, the selectors have named Punjab all-rounder Naman Dhir, as he earned his maiden call-up to the national T20I side after making his ODI debut in the just-concluded India vs West Indies ODI series. Dhir is more of a batting all-rounder who can bat anywhere in the middle order and is a useful off-spin bowling option.

IND vs WI T20Is: Amir Jangoo Added as Cover for Injured Jewel Andrew

The visitors have added wicketkeeper-batter Amir Jangoo to the squad as cover for the injured young batter Jewel Andrew. Jewel sustained an injury during the final ODI in Chandigarh, leaving his availability for the opening T20I in Lucknow uncertain.

Jangoo was in a purple patch during the ODIs. He impressed with a resilient fifty in the opening ODI at Thiruvananthapuram and backed it up with a magnificent hundred in the second game at Guwahati. In the final game, Jangoo continued with his magnificent form and scored a 56 off 67 deliveries before getting run out. Across the three ODIs, the southpaw impressed one and all with twin fifties and a hundred.
