“India has the most balanced line-up,” says former Sri Lankan cricketer

By Christopher Paul

After India won the Asia cup title for the seventh time, praises rained down on the team from all sides. Among them was former Sri Lankan captain, Mahela Jayawardene. He praised team India and said they deserved to win.

He also praised the Bangladesh team saying that the members can hold their own against the top teams. Bangladesh’s fighting spirit needs to be used as an inspiration. He also said that it was a fact that India were favorites from the start but Bangladesh was the unexpected surprise.

The biggest shock came after Bangladesh lost two of it’s most important players, Shakib Al Hasan and Tamim Iqbal to injury mid-tournament but were still a force to be reckoned with. After such an amazing performance, they can return to Dhaka with their heads held high, Jayawardene added.

Another praise went to the use of off-spinner Mehidy Hasan. Using him as an opener proved to be a good risk as he kept India on the backfoot for the first 90 minutes. But none of this worked as India has one of the most balanced teams. Even with the absence of the #1 batsman in the World, Virat Kohli, India still performed excellently.

For the future

It is because their talent cupboard is full and they can rotate players will ease and confidence. It was a sight to see how the spinners followed by the fast bowlers were able to pull India out of the troubled waters they were in, Jayawardene said.

On the batting side, captain Rohit, and opener Shikar Dhawan did a remarkable job in giving India a solid score. This tournament helped the management team find the best players and give them enough combinations to test out before the World Cup. This can be a reference for the future matches India will take part in.
