Ipl 2020 to happen in September 2020

The exciting news has come along as the IPL has been scheduled to happen in the September-October window where the WT20 was supposed to take place. The chairman of the IPL governing council and the former Indian player in Brijesh Patel confirmed the news in the latest press release

Awaiting the decision on WT20- Brijesh Patel

The decision on the future of the WT20 in Australia in September this year was supposed to have taken on 28th May but it got deferred to June 14th at the moment.

Here’s what Brijesh Patel told about conducting on the September-October window

We are ready to go ahead with the IPL , But we can start planning the schedule formally only after the official announcement is made on the T20 world cup, which I am expecting will arrive anytime soon. On our part, we have already earmarked September-October window for the tournament to be played. We have to watch how things are going to play out over the next one month on covid perspective. We dont mind shifting the IPL to another country either in part or in full. There are other aspects to be considered here

There are also talks going on to stage the IPL in overseas like 2009 where the whole IPL was conducted in South Africa.  Similarly in 2014, the first leg of the tournament happened in UAE. So IPL happening in overseas is not new to players and stakeholders and fans

Suppose we just shift the first leg out of the country, we will have to go through a quarantine when we fly there. But we may probably also have to go through another quarantine when we are back for the India leg. If covid doesn’t relent. Or who knows by October, things will be different. Lets see, right now , we are not ruling out the idea of playing the whole tournament overseas

IPL to be played at not more than 3 venues

Brijesh Patel also further added that this edition of IPL will not take place at more than 3 venues irrespective of the country that it is going to happen

“If the IPL has to begin in September, there will be a threat of monsoon. Whatever the case, logistics will have to be worked out carefully. Whether in India or in Overseas, the tournament won’t be played at more than two or three venues because its only for the television,” he concluded
