Hardik Pandya captain Ahmedabad IPL Team: In a massive breaking news, star all-rounder Hardik Pandya has been appointed as the captain of the newly introduced Ahmedabad-based team in the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The upcoming edition of the cash-rich T20 league will have a total of 10 teams with the introductions of two new IPL franchises namely Ahmedabad and Lucknow. It is to be noted that the old 8 IPL franchises have already submitted their retention list and set of released players for the mega auction.

IPL 2022: Hardik Pandya to Captain Ahmedabad IPL Team

According to the guidelines issued by the IPL Governing Council, both the franchises are allowed to pick a maximum of three players ahead of the mega auction. Hardik Pandya who will captain the Ahmedabad IPL Team has been picked for a massive amount worth INR 15 crore. In an astonishing move, the CVC-owned franchise have named Afghanistan leg-spinner Rashid Khan as their second player for a whopping price of INR 15 crore while Shubman Gill is their third pick for an amount worth INR 8 crore.

Incidentally, it was earlier reported that Shreyas Iyer was certain to lead the Ahmedabad franchise but those plans seems to have changed. Also, India’s 2011 World Cup winning coach Gary Kirsten has been named the mentor of the Ahmedabad IPL team while former England cricketer Vikram Solanki is the Director of Cricket and Ashish Nehra will take the head coach duties. It has been officially confirmed that KL Rahul will captain the Lucknow IPL Team while duo of Marcus Stoinis and Ravi Bishnoi are their other two picks ahead of the mega auction.

IPL Auction 2022 Date

As reported earlier, the IPL 2022 mega auction was supposed to take place on 12 and 13 February in Bengaluru and all the 10 teams had also been informed about the same. The BCCI sources have once again confirmed these mega auction dates while considering the Covid-19 situation.
