Which IPL team has most fans in 2021

The next edition of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 has already started to catch the eyeball of many. With mega-auction set to take place along with the addition of two new teams, the 10-team tournament will only give fans double excitement. While the mega-action will take place in a few months, It is reported that all the existing franchises have been told to submit their retention list by 29th November. Each team can retain a total of four players among which different combinations of; three India and one overseas or two Indians and two overseas players can be retained.

Let’s have a look at probable retentions by IPL teams for the 2022 edition of the tournament.

1. Chennai Super Kings (CSK) 

The Champions of the IPL 2021, Chennai Super Kings are almost certain to retain skipper MS Dhoni. With the sort of heroics Ruturaj Gaikwad displayed in the last two seasons, the Men in Yellow are expected to retain the right-hander batter as well. Moeen Ali and Faf du Plessis can be two overseas players the MS Dhoni-led franchise can retain.

2. Mumbai Indians (MI) 

The five-time IPL Champions Mumbai Indians would not let their skipper go, so Rohit Sharma will be the first retention by the most successful team in the IPL. They will no doubt also retain premier pacer Jasprit Bumrah. With a lot of star players on the side, there would be a lot of headaches for MI about whom to retain. However, they can retain Kieron Pollard and Trent Boult as their third and fourth retention.

3. Delhi Capitals (DC) 

There’s no doubt that Rishabh Pant will be the first retention of Delhi Capitals ahead of the mega auction. With R Ashwin hinting that the franchise won’t retain him and Shreyas Iyer, it is expected that they can retain Shikhar Dhawan and South Africa pace duo of Kagiso Rabada and Anrich Nortje.

4. Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) 

There’s no brainer that RCB will retain Virat Kohli ahead of the mega auction. However, with AB de Villiers not available anymore, they can retain Glen Maxwell considering his heroics in the IPL 2021. The Bangalore based franchise would want to build a team around youngsters and therefore can retain Devdutt Padikkal. Their fourth retention could be of purple cap winner in IPL 2021, Harshal Patel.

5. Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) 

Runner ups of the IPL 2021, Kolkata Knight Riders are expected to retain the West Indian duo of Andre Russel and Sunil Narine. They are also likely to retain Shubman Gill and can give him leadership responsibility as well. With Venkatesh Iyer rising in ranks, the two-time champions can retain him as well.

6. Punjab Kings (PBKS) 

Although there were some reports that KL Rahul has told the franchise that he wants to go in the mega auction but there’s no official confirmation. If available to play for the Punjab Kings, skipper Rahul will be the first retention. They are also expected to retain Mayank Agarwal and pace spearhead Mohammad Shami. They might also retain Aiden Markram.

7. Rajasthan Royals (RR) 

After winning the inaugural edition of the tournament, Rajasthan Royals have failed to make an impact in the tournament. They however would be looking to create a strong core group. They are likely to retain skipper Sanju Samson along with the English duo of Jos Buttler and Ben Stokes. The fourth retention could be youngster Yashasvi Jaiswal.

8. Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) 

With nothing going in their way in IPL 2021, Sunrisers Hyderabad would want to start fresh. There’s no brainer that Rashid Khan will be their first retention along with skipper Kane Williamson. With no hyped Indian batter in there side, they are likely to retain two Indian pacers in Bhuvneshwar Kumar and T Natarajan.
