Tata IPL 2025 has almost reached its pinnacle point. Three of the four playoff teams have been decided. Table-toppers Gujarat Titans, followed by Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Punjab Kings, have made it to the playoffs already, with almost a week remaining for the playoffs. Two teams are still in contention for the fourth playoff spot, i.e., Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals, and these two teams are all set to square off tonight at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Before moving ahead, let’s take a look at how the points table stands after match 62 between the Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings.

Teams marked with (Q) have qualified for the playoffs, while (E) indicates elimination from the tournament.

It’s time to take a look at what the teams need to do to get better on the points table and what Mumbai and Delhi need to do to enter the top 4.

Gujarat Titans

Remaining Matches: Lucknow Super Giants (Home), Chennai Super Kings (Home)

The Titans are currently firm at the pole position and have already qualified for the IPL 2025 playoffs. They are scheduled to play the already eliminated Lucknow Super Giants and Chennai Super Kings at home, i.e., the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. If GT wins both their remaining fixtures, they will surely finish atop and will get an extra chance of making it to the finals. However, if they win one of their remaining two games, they still can finish among the top 2 but will need RCB or PBKS to drop at least one of their remaining two fixtures.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru

Remaining Matches: Sunrisers Hyderabad (Lucknow), Lucknow Super Giants (Lucknow)

Standing second on the points table, Royal Challengers Bengaluru have already qualified for the playoffs. They are now left with two more games and would be hoping to finish among the top 2. They next play Sunrisers Hyderabad and Lucknow Super Giants at Lucknow, and they would love to win both their remaining games to assure a finish among the top two.

Punjab Kings

Remaining Matches: Delhi Capitals (Jaipur), Mumbai Indians (Jaipur)

Making it to the IPL 2025 playoffs after 11 long years, the Shreyas Iyer-led Punjab Kings have been a force to reckon with this season. They have the same number of wins and losses from 12 matches and have an opportunity to finish among the top 2, just like RCB and GT. Punjab needs to win both of their remaining fixtures against DC and MI to finish among the top two. Both DC and MI are in contention for a playoff spot, and PBKS could spoil either of the two’s party if they win their respective matches.

Mumbai Indians

Remaining Matches: Delhi Capitals (Home), Punjab Kings (Away)

The Mumbai Indians are the closest to securing a playoff berth. With two more games remaining, they just need to win one of them to seal their spot. They will be hosting Delhi Capitals in their next game at their home, i.e., Wankhede Stadium, and will look to dominate Delhi at their home to eliminate them and finalize their spot among the top 4.

Delhi Capitals

Remaining Matches: Mumbai Indians (Away), Punjab Kings (Away)

The Delhi Capitals are hanging on by a thread. Despite starting their season on a bang with 4 wins on the trot, DC succumbed to 5 losses and a no-result game in their next 8 fixtures. They now find themselves in a desperate state wherein they can’t afford to lose any more matches. MI and PBKS are their next two opponents, and they need to win both of them to make it to the playoffs without any ifs and buts. They will face Mumbai Indians next, and it’s the same team against whom, in the reverse fixture, they lost by 12 runs, and since then, their dreadful run of losses started.

The remaining 5 teams, i.e., Kolkata Knight Riders, Lucknow Super Giants, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Rajasthan Royals, and Chennai Super Kings, have already been eliminated from the IPL 2025 Playoffs race.
