Why Was IPL 2025 Suspended?
The decision to suspend IPL 2025 came in response to the events that unfolded last night at the India-Pakistan border. Several cities and states in the northern region of the country experienced blackouts after missiles and drones were detected originating from the Pakistani side. The situation was far from cricket-friendly, leading to the sudden abandonment of the PBKS vs DC match at the HPCA Cricket Stadium in Dharamsala, played on the 8th of May. Players were directed to the dugout, while the crowd was asked to vacate the stadium for safety.
An urgent meeting of the tournament’s Governing Council, where key stakeholders, including franchise owners, broadcasters, and sponsors, voiced their concerns about the escalating tensions between India and Pakistan. Given the situation, the BCCI prioritized safety, making it clear that national security must come before any sporting event.
When will IPL 2025 resume?
There’s some good news for the IPL fans. The league, which was suspended this morning in the wake of the escalating terrorism tension between India and Pakistan, is expected to resume next week. The BCCI has assured stakeholders that a comprehensive review will be conducted before announcing the revised schedule and venues. While the suspension is officially set for one week, the league’s resumption depends on the evolving geopolitical scenario. The IPL Governing Council will reassess the situation next week.
