IPL Suspended: Amidst Covid 19 Crisis, BCCI Suspends IPL 2021 With Immediate Effect – Official Reports


IPL Suspended: The Board of Control for Cricket In India (BCCI) has reportedly decided to suspend the Indian Premier League (IPL) for the time being. There’s no official statement yet on the rescheduling, or if, the tournament is suspended for the whole season, but reports indicate that the cash-rich tournament may be shifted entirely to Mumbai for the remaining matches provided BCCI gets clearance from the government.
There are also reports that BCCI is mulling over a 7-day period to rejig its schedule to fight the Covid-19. A solitary venue, Mumbai in this case, has been tossed over as a possible solution.

IPL Suspended Due To Covid 19 Scare

BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla confirmed that the IPL 2021 has been put on hold for the time being.

“IPL has been suspended. We will see whether we can reschedule it. It is not cancelled. It is just suspended for now,” Shukla to ANI.

On Monday, it was confirmed that three Kolkata Knight Riders players were tested positive for Coronavirus. It kick-started a chain reaction of sorts. Chennai Super Kings was the second team to get affected by Covid-19, as bowling coach L Balaji, CSK CEO and one of the assorted staffs testing coronavirus positive.

Will IPL 2021 Resume? Here’s an update

BCCI had to postpone Kolkata Knight Riders‘ game against Royal Challengers Bangalore, scheduled for Monday, May 3. But on Monday, it was also reported that five members from Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA) returned positive from Covid-19 tests.

Covid 19 In SRH Camp

The match between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Mumbai Indians (scheduled for May 4, in Delhi), was on track to go as per schedule, but wicket-keeper batsman Wriddhiman Saha returned a positive test, and the entire SRH team is reportedly in isolation.

DC Covid 19: Coronavirus scare in Delhi Capitals camp

Reports surfacing in the media suggest that Delhi Capitals leg spinner Amit Mishra has also tested for the virus.

All these developments forced BCCI to put the IPL 2021 on hold for now.
