Soon after the suspension of Tata IPL 2025 was announced, fans were speculating on when the marquee franchise extravaganza would resume. Following India and Pakistan’s agreement on an immediate ceasefire on Saturday, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is set to hold urgent discussions regarding the resumption of IPL 2025. The tournament was suspended for a week on Friday due to escalating tensions at the border between the two nations.

The disturbance was caused by India’s reprisal for the April 22 terror incident in Pahalgam, Kashmir, which killed 26 innocent people. In retaliation, India destroyed nine terrorist camps in Pakistan on May 7 with a missile assault.

The high-profile T20 league has remained on pause since Thursday, when the Punjab Kings vs. Delhi Capitals match in Dharamshala was abruptly halted due to security concerns after only 10.1 overs were bowled in the first innings. With the ceasefire now in place, stakeholders are hoping for a swift resolution that allows the tournament to resume safely.

BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia Gives Massive Update on IPL 2025 resumption

The Board of Control for Cricket in India secretary, Devajit Sakia, has given a massive update on the resumption of the Tata IPL 2025. Based on several media reports, the IPL might resume on May 16, and the final could be played on May 31 or June 1. However, Sakia said that in the coming days, the decision will be taken on IPL 2025 resumption.

“In the next few days, we will begin consultations with the franchises, broadcasters, sponsors and the state associations slated to host the remaining matches before crystallizating to a decision on the league’s resumption. Given that the importance of IPL at this juncture, it will also be prudent and necessary to take the nod of the Government of India before finalising the time for its restart.”

IPL 2025 Other Important Updates:

Are overseas players available for the second phase of IPL 2025?

Right after the suspension was announced, many overseas players opted to return home. Aussie icon players like Travis Head, Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, and Mitchell Starc are expected to remain unavailable for the second phase of the tournament. These names have returned home, and various sources around them have speculated that they probably won’t return once the tournament resumes.

Several overseas players from Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have already left India. However, Punjab Kings’ head coach Ricky Ponting has urged his foreign players to remain in the country, reassuring them of safety measures in place.

Despite Ponting’s request, South African all-rounder Marco Jansen has departed and is currently in Dubai. Meanwhile, Delhi Capitals pacer Mitchell Starc was spotted at Sydney Airport on Sunday, signaling his return to Australia.

Gujarat Titans have resumed practice

BCCI looking to conclude the tournament in May itself

With the international calendar set for resumption from June 11, it is learned that the BCCI and IPL governing bodies are taking all desperate measures to conclude the tournament in May itself. May 30 or 31 could probably be the date for the IPL 2025 final.

Based on several media reports, MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, and the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad are being talked about as possible venues.
