Ireland announce squad for Women’s World Twenty20


The Women’s World Cup T20 bell is ringing, and contenders from all around the world have arrived in the Caribbean to dominate this year, so does the Irish team!

Ireland can be the dark horse of the extensive competition, and they have announced their squad for the forthcoming Women’s World Cup 2018.  The most notable pick is 24-year-old Australian all-rounder Celeste Raack.

What made Celeste Raack so special?

Celeste Raack holds an Irish passport. She spent her initial years in Australia, and now she has been called to make her debut for the team. She has enough experience of Australian conditions. Currently, Raack represents Tasmanian Roar and Hobart Hurricanes from 2014 and 2015 respectively. Team coach Aaron Hamilton told the media, Celesta impressed the selector’s committee by her performance in Australian women’s domestic league and the Big Bash League.

Another landmark decision was taken by the selector’s committee to hand over the team’s harness to Laura Delany. She is one of the most experienced players in the team and has been given the opportunity to lead the squad in the marquee event.

Is Ireland one of the biggest threat to Indian hopes?

It is going to be the third consecutive arrival of the Irish team in the Women’s World Cup, and they have sent their most ‘strongest and experienced’ team so far. The idea is to save the youngsters from the pressure of performing in the enormous event by keeping the experienced heads on the top. The squad is encrusted with the players like Kim Garth (Daughter of Jonathan Garth), Cecelia Joyce, Isobel Joyce (Ireland’s leading wicket-taker), Ciara Metcalfe and Clare Shillington (Ireland’s leading run-scorer).

They can be counted as one of the biggest threat to the Indian hopes of becoming the World champions.
