Kieron Pollard IPL: The cricket pundits say Mumbai Indians (MI) vs Chennai Super Kings (CSK) as ‘El Clasico’ and the recent clash gave a plethora of reasons for viewers to believe in this prophecy. No doubt that the two most successful sides of the IPL often give nail-biting and edge-of-the-seat finishes to the spectators. In fact, match 27 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi, is a testimony to the same where MI emerged victorious by four wickets.
In the rush to chase a whopping total of 218 runs put on the board by CSK, MI poured their heart out to notch the win. The blue brigade was off to a spectacular start where Quinton de Kock and Rohit Sharma drove MI innings at an accelerated pace. The chase was put to a screeching halt on the loss of Rohit Sharma’s wicket soon after which MI slumped as they lost Suryakumar Yadav and Quinton de Kock at regular intervals.
Soon, the resting pulse of MI- Kieron Pollard took charge of the situation and changed the complexion of the match. What then seemed to out-of-the-sight chase for MI looked traceable witnessing the powerful over the ropes hit from the MI all-rounder.
To take control of the situation just after walking the pitch, Pollard had to resort to his furious hitting. Even after hitting three mammoth sixes to Ravindra Jadeja in the 13th over, Pollard’s quench to smash over the ropes was still unquenched.
Just in the following over, he hit CSK’s pacer Lungi Ngidi for two sixes. Raging in his bizarre form, he didn’t even spare Shardul Thakur on the first delivery of the 15th over which he soared as mammoth as 103 meters.
The overseas player was instrumental in bringing MI the much-needed win against CSK. Alone he smashed 87 off 34 balls. His lion-hearted knock included eight sixes and six fours.
