This is a standout performance in Umesh’s career: Kohli

Umesh Yadav picked six wickets in the first innings and then claimed more four in the second innings. According to Kohli this was a standout performance in the pace bowler’s career and something that he can build on.

He also pointed out that with Shardul Thakur breaking down very early, to bowl like that in both innings was a great effort on his part. Kohli feels that this showed the kind of fitness levels he had as he kept running in and bowled 140 clicks throughout the game and picked wickets and not just completed overs.

Umesh right up there to be featuring in Australia: Kohli

While speaking about the Australia tour, the Indian captain said that four Tests in Australia can be brutal because the ball does not do much like in England. So bowlers have to come in and run in all day and hit the right area with pace. But Kohli thinks from that point of view, Umesh is right up there to be featuring in Australia.

Kohli also said that because Yadav has got the pace, he has got the fitness levels to run in all day and picks up wickets at crucial times and he gets good bounce as well, so it’s a great headache to have while selecting bowlers for Tests.

Kohli full of praise for Umesh

The right hand batsman explained that not many people realise but Yadav is a very, very talented bowler. He admitted that Umesh can bowl you unplayable deliveries every now and then which they experience in the nets all the time.

According to Kohli, he will just bowl a ball which you feel you couldn’t have done anything else except getting out. Kohli feels that he is gaining more confidence about his own game and has come a long way.
