Who won today’s IPL match?: The 56th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 saw Mumbai Indians (MI) and Kolkata Knight Riders squaring off with each other at Mumbai’s DY Patil Stadium. While the five-time champions saw themselves getting knocked out of the tournament after Rajasthan Royals’ win over Punjab Kings, KKR on the other hand were in a desperate need of a win. And they did stood tall on the big occasion to hand MI their 9th loss of the season and keep their hopes for playoffs alive.

Invited to bat first, Venkatesh Iyer (43) and Ajinkya Rahane (25) took KKR off the flyer and scored 60 runs for the opening partnership inside the power play. However after that it was Jasprit Bumrah’s show as the right-arm pacer took five-wicket haul to put KKR on the backseat after a staggering start. They scored 165 runs with Nitish Rana also scoring 43 runs.

Chasing the target, MI lost skipper Rohit Sharma (2) and Tilak Varma (6) early. Ishan Kishan kept his side in the hunt with his half-century but KKR kept taking wickets at regular intervals to put MI under pressure. Pat Cummins turned the game in his side’s favour after he took 3 wickets in the 15th over. After that they bundled out the five-time champions for just 113 runs to win the match by 52 runs.

Despite his side losing the match, Mumbai Indians pacer Jasprit Bumrah was awarded player of the match in today’s encounter against Kolkata Knight Riders. The right-arm pacer made the opposition batsmen made look clueless as he tested with variations that coupled with his skills and lines and lengths. He returned with his IPL-career best figures of 5/19 and helped his restrict KKR for 165 runs. He removed the likes of Nitish Rana, Andre Russell, Sheldon Jackson, Sunil Narine and Pat Cummins to take his first five-wicket haul in IPL.
