MI vs SRH IPL 2019 report: Super-over defeat dents SRH play-off hopes

Sunrisers Hyderabad's dreams of reaching the play-offs have received a massive blow as they lost to Mumbai Indians in the super over after both teams scored 162 runs in their respective 20 overs. Manish Pandey's valiant 71 runs went in vain as Jasprit Bumrah conceded just 8 runs in the super over to turn the match in Mumbai's favor.

Quinton de Kock takes Mumbai to 162

Batting first, Mumbai's innings was shaped by Quinton de Kock's 69 runs off 58 balls. Rohit Sharma blazed off to 24 off 18 balls but Khaleel Ahmed dismissed him in the 6th over.

de Kock then added 54 runs for the second wicket with Suryakumar Yadav (23 off 17 balls) but Mumbai failed to make a strong finish as Hardik Pandya scored just 18 runs while Kieron Pollard managed only 10 runs.

Khaleel Ahmed claimed three wickets while Nabi and Rashid gave only 45 runs in their eight overs to restrict Mumbai to 162 runs.

Manish Pandey's 71 runs tie the match

SRH had a strong start to the chase with Wriddhiman Saha (25 off 15 balls) and Martin Guptill scoring (15 off 11 balls)  40 runs for the first wicket.  Bumrah removed both of them in successive overs and then SRH's middle order crumbled.

Mohammad Nabi slammed a quickfire 31 off 20 balls to lift SRH but they were always behind the chase. Meanwhile from the other end, Manish Pandey continued his good form and scored another half-century.

Pandey raced off to 20 off his first seven balls but slowed down in the middle overs to anchor the chase. With seven needed to win from one ball he launched Hardik Pandya in the mid-wicket stand to tie the game and remained unbeaten on 71 off 47 balls.

Bumrah, Hardik set-up Mumbai's super-over win

In the Superover though Pandey failed to replicate his magic and was run-out on the first ball trying to steal a non-existent second run. Nabi then nailed one six but on the very next ball Bumrah knocked out Nabi's stumps to restrict SRH to eight runs.
