Mithali Raj calls this series a precursor to World Cup T20I

Indian women’s cricket team skipper Mithali Raj seeks the upcoming Sri-Lankan tour as the preparation for ICC Women’s World Cup T20I which will commence in November.

As the skipper told the renowned media house, “It is important to regroup and get back the confidence again as the T20 World Cup is scheduled in November and In this context, the Sri Lanka series is crucial.” She expressed faith in his team as they can still be a contender to win the cup. After being thrashed by Australia and England back to back in the tri-series, India are still hopeful to perform better than before.

After the hurtful exit from the ICC Women’s world cup 2017, England in November, India was rested till February then a South African tour was organised for the team where they won both ODI and T20I series. India returned from South Africa to India and welcomed the Aussies girls where they got their first defeat of the year. India lost the ODI series by 3-0, later on, the duo and England were called for a tri-series. Here too India’s dismissal show continued and they only won one match in the four ties. Just after the tri-series Indian team participated in the Asia Cup but there, they got dumped by naïve Bangladesh.

India’s Tour of Sri-Lanka

In search of the form, India will tour Sri-Lanka in September after travelling to the Caribbean for World T20I.

India team with the new coach Ramesh Powar must be confident, but there will be a major missing in the dressing room that is of the speedster, Jhulan Goswami, as she announced her retirement from the format recently.

Mithali expressed her belief in the new coach that he’ll improve the skills of the off-spinners. As on the speedster’s absence she said, it was unfortunate of not having her in the squad. Mithali concluded the whole talk while giving the take on her retirement, “I would like to continue as long as I am fit and able to contribute to the team”. Mithali said I have to hold on the position until the team got the right combination in my absence.
