The story began in 2012 when Mustafizur, after leaving a mark in an Under-17 tournament in Satkhira, found himself at Dhaka’s doorstep for a fast-bowling camp. His impressive performance earned him a spot at the Bangladesh Cricket Board’s (BCB) pace foundation. Before long, he was selected for the Bangladesh Under-19 side for the 2014 World Cup, marking the first step toward a promising career.

Making his first-class debut for Khulna in the 2013-14 season, Mustafizur’s skills started to shine. His emergence came into the spotlight after his stellar performance in the U-19 World Cup in the UAE, leading to an unexpected call-up for Bangladesh A’s tour of the West Indies. His return from this tour showcased a refined bowler with an expanding repertoire of variations.

A pivotal moment in Mustafizur’s evolution was the development of his unique left-armer’s offcutter. Born out of a dare by Anamul Haque, this delivery, delivered like a spinner but carrying to the wicketkeeper, became his secret weapon. Mashrafe Mortaza, a cricketing stalwart, spotted his potential early on, further bolstering his growth.

Mustafizur Rahman Career

Mustafizur’s meteoric rise was swift and undeniable. In 2015, he was chosen for a one-off T20I against Pakistan, and later that year, he was included in the ODI series against India. He etched his name in history by becoming only the second bowler, after Brian Vitori, to secure five-wicket hauls in his first two ODIs. This remarkable feat laid the foundation for Bangladesh’s first ODI series victory over India.

His excellence extended beyond bilateral series. Mustafizur showcased his skills against formidable opponents like South Africa and Zimbabwe, even making his Test debut. His debut in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2016 further solidified his prowess on the international stage. Simultaneously, he secured a contract with Sussex, making his mark in English domestic limited-overs cricket.
