India faced its first innings defeat under Virat Kohli on Sunday at Lord’s.

Indian batsmen failed miserably in the second Test match at Lord’s as India suffered a humiliating defeat by an innings and 159 runs.

Notably, in a match where Indian batsmen failed to make a mark, R Ashwin managed to achieve a personal feat and he joined an elite list along with Kapil Dev.

R Ashwin became the fourth Indian to complete 3000 plus runs and 500-plus wickets in international cricket. Ashwin top-scored for India with 29 runs in India’s first innings where India posted a humble total of 107 on a  rain-interrupted day and replicated his performance in the second innings where he remained unbeaten on 33.

Ashwin joined the list which also includes Anil Kumble and Harbhajan Singh. He has now become the fourth Indian to achieve this milestone.

Ashwin has played 111 ODIs, 60 Tests and 46 T20Is where he has scored 2215 runs in Tests, 675 in ODIs and 123 runs in T20 International.

He has also taken a total of 525 scalps in all the formats.

England outplayed India in the second Test match where all the Indian batsmen seemed to be helpless against the spells of Anderson and Woakes.

India will now take on England for the third Test on 18 August, Saturday at Trent Bridge, Nottingham.
