Mohammad Irfan registered the most economical bowling spell in T20s by bowling 23 dot balls in his quota of four overs and conceding just one run. He achieved this tremendous feta while bowling for Barbados Tridents against St Kitts and Nevis Patriots in the CPL. However this magnificent effort failed to win the game for Barbados as Patriots chased the target with six wickets in hand.
The Pakistani fast bowler who is known for his tall height (7ft 1in) started his spell on a high by dismissing Chris Gayle on the first ball of the innings. Irfan then removed the other dangerous opener Evin Lewis in his second over to push Patriots to two down for seven runs in the chase of 148 runs.
Irfan bowled three maiden overs on a trot and conceded the only run on the last ball of his fourth over. Courtesy of this spectacular bowling performance the fast bowler registered the most economical bowling figures in the history of T20 cricket.
Prior to Irfan’s sensational bowling figures of 4-3-1-2, another Pakistani bowler, Arafat Sunny had registered bowling figures of 2.4-2-0-3 and Nuwan Nuwan Kulasekara had bowled two overs without giving any runs in a completed match. But no other bowler has conceded fewer runs than Irfan in a four over spell.
After the match Irfan said that he loves to bowl on lively wickets and he admitted that his height offers him extra bounce. He termed this spell as a ‘satisfying’ performance.
The Twitterati too took a note of this mind-boggling record and praised the pace bowler.
Mohammad Irfan also tweeted about his performance and thanked the fans and the CPL.
Despite this sensational bowling performance, Patriots chased the target in the 19th over. Brandon King amassed 60 runs off 49 balls and tagged with DC Thomas (32 off 29) and Ben Cutting (29 not out off 21) to win the game by six wickets. Earlier in the match, Jason Holder’s 54 runs powered Tridents to 147 in their 20 overs but this score proved to be too less in the en
