Pakistan vs New Zealand live: In a breaking news, New Zealand fast bowler Lockie Ferguson has been ruled out for the entire ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 due to a calf injury. The Kane Williamson-led New Zealand team will kickstart their T20 World Cup campaign against the in-form Pakistan side at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium in Sharjah on 26 October (Tuesday).
New Zealand Cricket have released an official statement mentioning that Lockie Ferguson felt tightness in his right calf after the training last night and the subsequent MRI scans revealed a grade two tear. The right-arm speedster will require a minimum of three to four weeks in order to recover from this injury. New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson mentioned that they have included Adam Milne in the 15-man squad subject to approval from the ICC.
“It’s a real shame for Lockie to have this happen on the eve of the tournament and the entire team is really feeling for him right now,”New Zealand coach Gary Stead said.
“He’s a massive part of our T20 side and has been in such good form – so to lose him at this time is a blow. However, we are fortunate to have a like for like replacement in the form of Adam who has been with the squad training for the past two weeks,” he added.
Both these teams are coming into this match after facing quite contrasting fortunes in their previous few outings. Pakistan opened their ICC T20 World Cup 2021 campaign in an emphatic manner as they registered a resounding 10-wicket win against arch-rivals India and this was their first win in World Cup matches over the neighbouring country. On the other hand, New Zealand ended up losing both their practice matches against Australia and England.
In the 24 games played between these two teams in the T20I format, Pakistan have managed to win 14 matches while New Zealand have emerged victorious 10 occasions so far.
