Peshawar Zalmi have assembled a pretty good squad for PSL 2022. The absence of Saqib Mahmood for the entirety of the last season hurt them big time.
They started their season very well in 2021 but faded away in the second half of the league that took place in UAE after the season came to a halt due to covid-19 outbreak in Pakistan but still managed to finish as the runners up of Pakistan Super League.
Kamran Akmal has withdrawn from the squad but they still have all bases covered with respect to their squad. The two experienced veterans in Wahab Riaz and Shoaib Malik will play this season as well.
Winners: 2017
Runners-up: 2018, 2019, 2021
Playoffs: 2016, 2020
Peshawar Zalmi have a positive head to head record against Islamabad United although there isn’t that much of a difference between these two sides. Peshawar Zalmi are known for their bowling depth while United are strongly known for their batting depth. It has always been a fierce competition when these two teams meet in PSL.
Karachi Kings is one of the strongest teams in the competition but they have always found Peshawar Zalmi as a tough side to beat in PSL. Though Karachi Kings will be looking to improve on their overall head to head record against Zalmi in the upcoming seasons, Zalmi have the upper hand at the moment.
PZ vs KK in PSL 2021
Lahore Qalandars defeated Peshawar Zalmi when these two teams met in the competition last time around. Peshawar Zalmi were starting to lose their way in the season and that is when Lahore Qalandards demolished Zalmi side. But the fact is, Peshawar Zalmi have positive win loss ratio against Lahore as well in PSL history.
There is a strong rivalry growing between these two teams in PSL. If there is one team that Peshawar Zalmi don’t have a positive win loss ratio, then, that is Mohammad Rizwan led Multan Sultans. Peshawar Zalmi lost to the same team in the finals of PSL 2021. They would have become 2 time champions if not for a loss in the final last year.
Another team against whom Zalmi have a positive win loss ratio but not much of a difference as they have won just one additional game than Quetta Gladiators. Zalmi smashed QG both the times in PSL 2021 and if not for that, QG had the upper hand prior to PSL 2021. Both the games in the previous season turned out to be an one sided affair with Zalmi winning it.
