5 Players you didn’t realize scored hundred on ODI debut

Scoring a century is a huge deal in the world of cricket and the bigger the stage it was achieved on the higher the impact. Throughout the history of One Day International cricket, only 14 players have been able to achieve this huge feat. The very first time this was achieved was by Dennis Amiss of England while playing against Australia.

Making his ODI debut for Hong Kong against UAE (United Arab Emirates) on 16 November 2015. Mark had come in at #4 and was able to score an impressive 124 from 116 balls making him the first Hong Kong player to have scored a century in an ODI.

Making his ODI debut against Zimbabwe and playing for South Africa on 15th October 2010. He came out at #3 and was able to hit 124 runs from 126 balls. South Africa had won the toss and decided to bat first. It was the first match of a three-match ODI series.

Temba Bavuma


The second player from South Africa making his debut on 25th September 2016. The South Africa team was playing against Ireland. When Ireland won the toss and chose to bowl first, Bavuma and Quinton de Kock were the first to bat for South Africa. He was able to hit an impressive 113 runs from 123 balls. He is the second South Africa player to hit a century in ODI.

Rob Nicol

Making his debut for the New Zealand team against Zimbabwe on 20th October 2011. On the first match of the three-match ODI, Nicol was able to get 108 runs from 131 balls. Nicol played 22 ODIs post that and retired in June 2018.

Phillip Hughes

He made his debut for Australia on 11th January 2013 against Sri Lanka. It was the first of a five-match game. Hughes was able to get a decent 112 runs from 129 balls. The total score came up to 205 runs thanks to David Hussey and Bailey. Australia won the match by 107 runs.
