R Ashwin, Harbhajan Singh pay homage to DMK Chief Karunanidhi

DMK patriarch and Former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, M Karunanidhi passed away on Tuesday after fighting prolonged illness in Chennai.

The Tamil Nadu government has announced a seven-day mourning following his death. The government has also announced that all the government-related functions shall stand cancelled and the national flag would fly half-mast during this period.

M Karunanidhi completed 49 years as the chief of the party in July and he was the first leader to enter the 50th year as the president of a political party.

Karunanidhi came into power for the first time in 1969 and held the position in the state five times, with the last tenure being in the year 2006.

While the country mourns the death of an era, cricket fraternity came forward to pay homage to the 94-year old veteran leader.
