Ravindra Jadeja is a proven world-class fielder. Time in and time out he gives us enough proof for his outstanding fielding efforts and athleticism. But he was nowhere near his absolute best in the early part of the 21st match of IPL 2020 between CSK and KKR. Quite unlikely he missed three run-out chances. But right when his team needed a breakthrough, he paid back them through one of IPL 2020’s greatest fielding effort. He along with Faf du Plessis pulled off a stunning combo catch to dismiss the KKR pinch hitter Sunil Narine.
The incident happened in the last ball of the 11th over. After getting off to a terrific start, courtesy of a fine innings from opener Rahul Tripathi, KKR lost momentum after the fall of Shubman Gill’s wicket. The man who came in next, Nitish Rana also failed to capitalize on the CSK bowlers and he too fell short of a two-figure mark. And then, KKR pulled of a strategical decision to send in the pinch hitter Sunil Narine at number four to take on the CSK spinners. Narine has an incredible record against spin and slow medium pacers, and rightly so he started attacking them from ball one. He scored a quick-fire 17 of just 9 balls. Right when he looked all set to take control, CSK fielders Ravindra Jadeja and Faf du Plessis pulled off a stunning catch in the boundary to sent him back to the pavilion.
Jadeja pulls off a stunning fielding effort, Faf completes the catch
The man who Narine targeted to pounce on was CSK leg spinner, Karn Sharma. Coming into bowl his third over Karn Sharma tossed the ball up in the air, and Narine whacked it towards the deep mid-wicket region. But for his bad luck, the man in patrol in that region was Ravindra Jadeja. He dived parallel to the ground to his right and at the moment when he thought that he was going to touch the boundary rope, he tossed the ball up to his fellow fielder Faf du Plessis who was running in from long-on. And hence together they pulled off one of the sensational fielding efforts of IPL 2020. This was a big relief for Jadeja, who had already missed three direct hit run-out chances by then.
