Royal Challengers Bangalore hosted Rajasthan Royals in match no 32 of Tata IPL 2023. The match which was played at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru has been won by the hosts Royal Challengers Bangalore by 7 runs. With this win, RCB remains at the 5th spot with 4 wins and 3 losses from 7 games.
Once again it was Virat Kohli who came out for the toss instead of regular skipper Faf du Plessis who batted as an impact player for the second game in a row. Sanju Samson won the toss and asked Virat & Co to bat first. The decision seemed spot on for Sanju as Trent Boult removed Virat on the very first delivery of the match. Boult then in his second over dismissed Shahbaz Ahmed who got promoted to no 3. Well, that was it for RR bowlers early as what unfold afterwards was a sheer massacre from Glenn Maxwell and Faf du Plessis.
Maxwell and Faf stitched a brilliant stand for the third wicket of 127 runs off just 67 deliveries. Both went berserk on RR bowlers and ensured they don’t let the momentum shift. However, once the two batters got dismissed, RR was again in the game. When Maxwell got dismissed, RCB were 156 for the loss of 4 wickets in 15 overs. Their batters could only manage 33 runs in the final five overs and in the process lost 5 wickets. For RR, Trent Boult and Sandeep Sharma scalped 2 wickets each, whereas Ashwin and Chahal got 1 each.
Rajasthan Royals had a bizarre start to the chase as they lost Jos Buttler for a duck to Mohammed Siraj on the fourth ball of the innings. Buttler’s wicket was crucial for RCB’s cause, but the young left-hand duo of Devdutt Padikkal and Yashasvi Jaiswal kept RR in the game with 98 runs stand off 66 deliveries. The game got a little slow once both the set batters were dismissed in almost consecutive overs. Skipper Sanju Samson tried to steady the ship, but he too got dismissed after getting a start for 22 runs from 15 deliveries. RR needed 68 in the last 5 overs with an asking rate of somewhere around 14.
Young batter Dhruv Jurel showed a glimpse of what he is capable of and almost took his team over the finishing line, but he could only get strike for one ball in the final over where 20 runs were required. In the end, Jurel’s courage fell short against RCB’s fortunes, as the home team won the game by 6 runs. For his brilliant show with the bat, Glenn Maxwell was adjudged the Man of the Match.
Here’s how the IPL 2023 Points table looks like after match no 32 between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Rajasthan Royals.
