We’re ready for raised expectations: Harmanpreet Kaur

The International Cricket Council (ICC) Women’s World T20 is around the corner. India captain Harmanpreet Kaur, in a column on ICC’s website, said a lot of Indians will be following the team at the event and her team is ready for the expectations.

On Caribbean experience

Harmanpreet Kaur is confident of doing well in the Caribbean. She said, “I’ve been to the West Indies a couple of times before, but the last time was about six years ago. Besides the people, what I remember the most from there is the wind.”

Kaur is wary of the ‘wind factor’ and is ready with strategies to use it to their advantage. The Indian skipper said, “It [wind] doesn’t just affect high catches, it makes a difference as a captain, bowler and batter. We have to think about which end to use which bowler from, and from which end which shot makes more sense.”

On expectations and India’s chances

Harmanpreet Kaur is confident of India’s chances at the ICC event. She said, ” After the Women’s World Cup 2017, a lot more Indians will be following our team. It’s a good feeling; the team did well getting to the final in England.”

She feels that there is ‘no one favourite’ team at the ICC Women’s World T20 2018, with most teams doing well in the last couple of years.

On India’s chances, Kaur said that they can produce a good performance like last year [Women’s World Cup 2017] if they play as a team.

On preparations

Kaur said India had a good series in Sri Lanka, with younger players coming good. Indian skipper expressed contentment with the performances on the tour and was all praise for coach Ramesh Powar for helping the bowlers.

The ICC Women’s World Cup 2017 will take place across three venues, Antigua, Saint Lucia and Guyana from November 9 to 24, with India playing New Zealand in the tournament opener.
