Rohit Sharma available for MI vs KKR: The Mumbai Indians (MI) resumed their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 campaign with a disappointing loss against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the first match of the UAE leg. However, the biggest setback for the five-time IPL champions, Mumbai Indians, was the absence of their regular skipper Rohit Sharma due to an injury which he sustained during the recently concluded Test series against England.
Both Kieron Pollard and MI head coach Mahela Jayawardene mentioned that Rohit Sharma did not play the IPL 2021 Phase 2 opener as a precautionary measure for the injury which he sustained during the 4th Test in England. However, Mumbai Indians pacer Trent Boult gave an important update on Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya’s injury update on the eve of the match against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) scheduled on 23 September. Boult mentioned that both the players are recovering well and were rested as a precautionary move in the previous outing.
“They (Rohit and Hardik) are both recovering well, in terms of their selection for the next game, I am not too sure. It was a bit of a precautionary move to rest them,” said Trent Boult during a pre-match press conference.
“But it was a good decision to make sure he is 100 per cent with the amount of cricket coming up. If he comes to the eleven tomorrow, it will be great but we want to make sure he is 100 per cent fit,” added the Kiwi pacer on Rohit’s absence.
In the last match between these two teams during the first half of IPL 2021, Mumbai Indians registered an amazing 10-run victory against Kolkata Knight Riders in an exciting encounter. MI have always dominated the proceeding in the head-to-head rivalry against KKR as the defending champions have won a total of 22 matches out of the 28 meetings so far between these two teams in the history of the IPL.
