Ross Taylor cruises past Dhoni’s record

New Zealand star Ross Taylor has broken Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s record for the most number of sixes in T20 cricket. Taylor achieved the milestone while playing for Jamaica Tallawahs in the ongoing edition of the Carribean Premier League.

Playing for the Tallawahs, Taylor scored an unbeaten 51 off 35 balls against St Kitts and Nevis Patriots as his knock helped his team post a total of 178 runs as Jamaica Tallawahs outplayed St Kitts and Nevis Patriots by 47 runs. The innings included two boundaries and four sixes.

These sixes took Taylor’s sixes tally to 271 in 248 T20s. Former India skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni has hit 267 sixes in 297 T20 games.

Taylor has scored 4,111 runs in the T20 format, and he currently sits on the 12th position in the list of most sixes hit by a player in the shortest format of the game.

The list is topped by ‘Universe Boss’, Chris Gayle who has hit 857 maximums in 338 matches. He is followed by his Keiron Pollard who has smashed 530 sixes in 425 games.

Indian batsman Rohit Sharma sits on the seventh position with 313 sixes in 289 games. Suresh Raina and Dhoni are currently seated on 11th and 13th position.

Ross Taylor and Dhoni were earlier were tied with 267 sixes, but the Kiwi batsman overtook Dhoni after hitting a six off left-arm fast bowler Sheldon Cottrell’s spell.

Dhoni has recently returned from the UK Tour after completing the T20I series against England and Ireland and ODI series against England. Although he could not perform to the best of his abilities on the English soil, he exhibited a vintage form in the eleventh edition of the Indian Premier League where the CSK skipper amassed 455 runs in 16 matches.
