RR Home Ground: Is Barsapara Cricket Stadium home to RR?

Rajasthan Royals, the IPL franchise, has chosen Guwahati as their second home ground for the 2023 season. The decision was made during the 13th season of the IPL when Guwahati was shortlisted from five cities. If it weren’t for COVID-19, the Barsapara Cricket Stadium would have hosted its first IPL match around the same time in 2020.

RR has already partnered with the Assam Cricket Association (ACA) for a functioning cricket academy in Guwahati, making it a viable option for hosting home matches in the name of expansion. The franchise hopes that this decision will attract more fans from an untapped territory and expand its fan base. Besides the ongoing match, Rajasthan Royals will also host Delhi Capitals on April 7 which will be the final game of this venue this season. Tthe Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur is the actual home ground of Rajasthan Royalsn where they will be playing their rest of the 5 home games.

The presence of all-rounder Riyan Parag from Assam, who plays for the Rajasthan Royals, also played a significant role in the decision. Assam has been deprived of regular cricketing facilities and action, unlike other parts of the country. This move is expected to provide a boost to the sport’s popularity in the region.
