SA Playing XI – South Africa will be up against Sri Lanka in their opening game of the ICC World Cup 2023 on Saturday, 7th October. South Africa always have been a competitive side in the ICC events but they have a history of choking when it matters the most.
We saw the latest example of them choking during the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 as they lost their final league game to the Netherlands and crashed out of the competition instead of qualifying for the semifinals. However, the Proteas are coming to India with no baggage behind them and not many people are considering them semifinal contenders as well.
It could allow South Africa to play their natural game without taking any pressure. They recently defeated Australia 3-2 at home in the five-match ODI series and they looked like a team to beat. They have a strong playing XI and their only concern is the back-ups.
If their first-choice XI could remain fit during the whole World Cup and if they could hold on to their nerves during the tense moments, South Africa could spring a surprise.
