The SA20 Player Auction for the fifth season, i.e., for the 2027 season, is done and dusted with major fireworks. All six franchises battled fiercely in the auction room to get their favorite players on board and complete their 19-player rosters. This resulted in high-profile moves, big-money signings, and a few surprise team switches.

The major highlight of the SA20 Player Auction was the signing of the 18-year-old youngster Jason Rowles, who emerged as the most expensive player of the day. Rowles got signed by the Joburg Super Kings for a record R2.9 million (approx. $174,000 USD, INR 1.7 Cr).

Key Player Movements at the SA20 Player Auctions

  • Joburg Super Kings (JSK): Secured West Indies legend Kieron Pollard at his base price of R1.5 million, marking his first time wearing yellow in the SA20, alongside the return of former skipper Faf du Plessis (R2.7 million) and young talent Jason Rowles.
  • MI Cape Town: Made an immediate splash by securing West Indies power-hitter Shimron Hetmyer for R1.5 million as the very first player sold. They also bolstered their fast bowling and all-round department by signing legendary Kiwi pacer Trent Boult and South Africa’s Wiaan Mulder (R2.6 million). However, it was surprising to see the MI Cape Town owners not raising the paddle for their all-time favorite Kieron Pollard.
