Former India cricketer Virender Sehwag was brutally aggressive with the bat but off the field he always maintained a cordial relationship with his opponents. He has showered praise on fellow cricketers on numerous occasions and this time he honoured a Pakistan cricketer by calling him the ‘Sachin Tendulkar of Pakistan’.
While speaking with a news channel, the former India opener recalled the memories of his first series against Pakistan. He said that everyone in the Indian team had talked about Afridi before his first series against Pakistan.
Sehwag revealed that the team discussed Afridi. He praised the Pakistan all-rounder by saying that as a player, he was like our Tendulkar in the Pakistan team.
At the same time, the right-hand batsman spoke about the India-Pakistan cricket rivalry. According to the former opening batsman, every Indian and Pakistani want to see an India-Pakistan series. He admitted that they as cricketers too want to watch it.
He is also hopeful that the governments of both countries will talk and resume the series.
The only Indian batsman to score two triple centuries in Tests also mentioned that he has many lovely memories of playing against Pakistan. He remembers his triple century in the Multan Test match, the double century in Lahore Test and his century in Kochi ODI match.
The Pakistani all-rounder Shahid Afridi responded to Sehwag’s praise by appreciating the opening batsman.
Afridi noted that Sehwag made his debut against Pakistan and he remembers the match as he got out quickly.
He revealed that after that, he always enjoyed watching Sehwag because he loves anyone who is aggressive and it was special to see an opener attacking bowlers. He also stated that until then he had never seen any opener do it.
