Pakistan Cricketer Shahid Afridi tests positive for Covid-19

Sporting activities around the world were affected to a large extent due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Many sports personalities around the world have been tested positive for the deadly virus ever since the virus broke out a few months before. Compared to other sports personalities, prominent cricketers were so far safe from the attack of this virus. But in the recent turnaround of events the former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi had tweeted that he is feeling unwell and had been tested positive for the Covid-19.

Shahid Afridi tested positive for Covid-19

Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi took to Twitter to confirm the rumours that he had been tested positive for the Covid-19. He tweeted that he had been feeling unwell since Thursday.

“I’ve been feeling unwell since Thursday; my body had been aching badly. I’ve been tested and unfortunately I’m covid positive. Need prayers for a speedy recovery, InshaAllah,” Afridi tweeted.

He had been busy doing social work during the Covid-19 pandemic via ‘Shahid Afridi Foundation’. He also requested Yuvraj Singh and Harbhajan Singh to tweet videos urging people to donate to his foundation and faced severe criticisms for speaking against the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a public event in Pakistan.

Cricketers and Covid-19

Shahid Afridi is third among the list of Pakistani cricketers who have been tested positive for the novel virus. Earlier players like Taufeeq Umar and Zafar Sarfaraz were tested positive for the coronavirus.

Umar was soon to recover from the disease after he went into a 14-day self-isolation at home. The former Pakistan opener tested positive last month. He was then tested negative in the first week of June after he went into second 14-day isolation.

Among other cricketers around the world, Scotland’s Majid Haq and South Africa’s Solo Nqweni have tested positive for the deadly virus earlier.

Messages pour in wishing a speedy recovery for Shahid Afridi

Teammates, friends, and foes of the veteran all-rounder took to social media to wish him a speedy recovery. Prominent Pakistan Players including Wahab Riaz, Imad Wasim, Sohai Tanvir, and Hasan Ali wished him good health through the microblogging platform.
