Shami watched England bowlers’ videos to know the areas to target

Indian pace bowler Mohammad Shami has revealed that he watched videos of England seamers James Anderson and Stuart Broad to know where they pitched the balls especially in English conditions. Shami also said that the Indian bowlers have done better this time.

One of the brighter prospects of India’s abysmal tour of England has been the performance of pace bowlers. Indian bowlers at times have bowled at a better pace than their England counterparts and have been highly consistent and disciplined. Shami too has been remarkable. Although he didn’t pick a lot of wickets, he was effective with the old ball and looked highly threatening at times.

Shami said wickets depend on luck

Talking about his failure to convert chances into wickets, the Indian pacer admitted that it depends on luck sometimes. He said that as a bowler, the main target is to hit good areas consistently, especially with the new ball. Whether that yields wickets depends on luck and he also admitted that it is is certainly a bit frustrating when the ball beats the bat several times.

Shami also spoke about the improvements from the previous England tour. He said that he has learnt a lot. When we had come here in 2014, they didn’t even have that much experience and they weren’t mature. He also pointed out that this time they have done better.

Shami admits absence of Ishant increased the load

India faced one of their worst days on the field on the day four of the 5th Test as Alastair Cook and Joe Root piled on individual centuries and registered a monumental partnership.

The absence of Ishant Sharma added to India’s woes and Shami admitted this fact. He said that it is difficult when you’re one bowler short, and he pointed out that in these conditions you’ll have to bowl since it is fast-bowler friendly. He also accepted that the load increases during such times.

Shami finished the Test series with ten wickets to his name.
