Indian batsman Prithvi Shaw has earned praises by the cricket fraternity for his spectacular century on Test debut. However, there are still some chinks in his armor and this has been pointed out by a few cricketers and analysts. One such technical fallacy in Shaw’s batting has been brought to limelight by former West Indies cricketer Carl Hooper who believes the young batsman may face troubles in England and Australian conditions.

Shaw leaves a gap between bat and the body while playing on back-foot: Hooper

While speaking with a news agency, the former Windies all-rounder Hooper admitted that Shaw seems to be a great talent but he pointed out that the opener tends to play away from the body.

According to Hooper, Shaw likes to be on the back foot and play square off the wicket and he believes that although it worked here in Rajkot, he could face issues in England and Australia.

Hooper explained that by playing square of the wicket from the back foot, the youngster leaves so much gap between the bat and body that it will cause him trouble in English and Australian conditions.

Shaw needs to tighten up his technique feels Hooper

To achieve success in testing conditions such as England and Australia, the former West Indies player feels the youngster must tighten up his technique.

At the same time, Hooper said that the right-hand batsman’s back-foot punches reminded him of the good old Caribbean flair which has become rare these days.

Shaw’s imperious debut in Test cricket

Ever since he started playing club cricket in Mumbai, Prithvi was praised by many for his talent and his rapid progress in age-group cricket paved way for his debut in Test cricket.

The right-hander proved that he belongs to this level by smashing a 99-ball hundred in his debut innings against West Indies at Rajkot.
