Mitchell Starc yorker: India’s T20I series against Australia got underway today in Manuka Oval Canberra. Before the start of the match, there was high confusion regarding the availability of the lead Australian pacer Mitchell Starc. He was having a niggle and was supposed to miss the first T20I. But contrary to the expectations from the Indian camp, he recovered from the injury and announced his return in style by uprooting the off stump of Shikhar Dhawan in his very second over.

Mitchell Starc Yorker cleans up Dhawan

After being put in to bat first, India opened the innings with Shikhar Dhawan and KL Rahul. The southpaw looked really out of shape in the little time that he spent in the creaser and was finally castled by a fast delivery from Starc. Batting on 1 run from  5 balls, Dhawan tried to drive the fifth ball of Starc’s second over towards the off side region. But the ball swung away late and knocked off his stumps in after taking a slight outside edge of his bat. This wicket came in as a welcome bonus for Starc who was struggling for form during the course of this entire white ball series. He later picked up the wicket of Washington Sundar and ended with bowling figures of 2-34 inside his quota of four overs.

KL Rahul, Ravindra Jadeja takes India to a par score

After Dhawan’s wicket, Indians kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Only KL Rahul batted for a while as he scored a well-calculated 51 of 40 balls. Samson who came in at number four looked in fine touch, but once again failed to capitalize on the impressive start. Later a quickfire innings from Jadeja at the backend of the innings saw India reaching a par score of 161-7. Jadeja scored 44 runs from 23 balls. He was hit on the helmet and won’t take the field for India in the second innings. Leg spinner Yuzvendra Chahal will replace him in the eleven and will be allowed to bowl four overs instead of Jadeja as per ICC’s new concussion substitute rules.
