Siddle recalled; Finch set to debut as Australia announce squad for Test series against Pakistan

Siddle and Finch called-in

Australia has recalled veteran fast bowler Peter Siddle in the 15-man touring party that was announced for the 2-Test series against Pakistan in the UAE. Siddle, who made his last Test appearance nearly two years ago against South Africa has been included in the squad to lend some experience in the absence of Josh Hazlewood and Pat Cummins.

The selectors have also included limited-overs main-stay Aaron Finch, who is one of the five uncapped cricketers for Australia in the 15-man squad.

Burns, Maxwell and Handcomb out

Another member of Australia’s scandalous tour of South Africa, Joe Burns has also been discarded in favour of South Australia skipper Travis Head. Head is currently with Australia A side who are currently battling against India A in two four-day rubbers.

Another major absentee from the touring party is GlennMaxwell and Peter Handscomb, who’ve been deemed surplus to the new look Australian squad post the Newlands ball-tampering scandal. The selection chairman, Trevor Hohns, explained the reasons for the omission of Burns, Maxwell and Jhye Richardson:-

“Joe, Peter and Glenn were players we discussed when selecting the batting group, but we had to take into account the conditions and competition we are set to face in the upcoming series,” Hohns said. “All three remain on our radar for Test cricket, but we want them to perform for their states and continue to push their case ahead of what is going to be a big Australian summer.

“Jhye is a player who has a bright future in all formats, and has been impressive in his international opportunities to date. He is one of a number of developing bowlers adding to the depth of our fast bowling group, and we see him potentially having an important role to play in the shorter formats of the game in the immediate future.”

All-out pace

While the Bulls middle-order batsman Marnus Labuschagne has been called in as a cover for Matt Renshaw, the all-out pace of Brandan Doggett, who is currently featuring in the 4-day game against India A has earned him a place alongside Michael Nesser and Jon Holland, who bowled a sensational spell in the first four0day game against India A.

Brendan is an exciting prospect, a fast bowler with raw pace and wicket-taking ability,” Hohns said. “He provides an additional option to Mitchell Starc if extra pace is called for, and this is an ideal opportunity to get him involved in a national set-up for the first time after his recent showings for Queensland and Australia A.

While Tim Paine has been retained as the captain, his debut is yet to be announced. Australia will start their sojourn to the UAE with a four-day practice match against Pakistan A from September 29 before the first Test gets underway from October 07, 2018.
